Avichai’s performing career spans two major chapters: First his international journey in classical music, which included Assistant Principal Flute of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel and Kurt Masur), solo appearances in major music festivals (Radio France Festival, Rolandseck Chamber Music Festival) and winning first prizes in competitions (National Flute Association – U.S.A; Paul Ben Haim – Israel). Then Avichai decided to seek new artistic challenges in the realm of Jazz and had the privilege of collaborating with notable jazz artists such as Branford Marsalis, Eric Revis, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Doug Hammond, Anders Bergcrantz, Eli Degibri, Olivier Hutman, Omer Klein among others. He performs regularly in Europe with world-renowned contemporary klezmer band Kolsimcha and has collaborated with Israeli popular music icons Yoni Rechter and Shem-Tov Levy.
Avichai’s debut jazz album “Sneakin’ In” was released in 2016 on the French ‘Jazz Family’ label to critical acclaim and was broadcast in radio stations all over the world. In France it got featured as ‘album of the week’ – FIP radio, selected as one of ten recommended international albums -Les Inrocks magazine, was featured as part of the on-board playlist on Air France flights, and the album’s release concert was held at the prestigious Sunset-Sunside club in Paris.
