Elisheva (Ellen) Horowitz

Elisheva (Ellen) Horowitz was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and took courses at the Cleveland Institute of Art and later went on to study painting and design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She made Aliyah in 1986 and worked in writing, research and art directing for a number of years, but returned to her first love, painting, three years ago. Her drawings and paintings are a quest for Jewish authenticity, so to speak. She strives to achieve this by synthesizing the personalities and episodes from our past with words from our Sources and with the landscapes and colors of Israel. This allows for a visually moving experience- an encounter with the Jewish soul. By taking a bold approach to color and expression, and by daring to explore the heights and depths of the human experience, she strives to reawaken imagination and hope – a key to the survival of Israel’s spirit.
