About Gil Agababa-Shaked

Clarinettist Gil Agababa-Shaked, born in Tel-Aviv 1985, began her musical education in Israel with Mrs. Eva Wassermann-Margolis and Mr. Richard Lesser. She graduated “Thelma Yellin high-school of the arts” and completed her Bachelor and Master’s studies at the Cologne Music Academy and at the Sibelius academy in Helsinki.

Gil is principal clarinetist of the Finnish chamber orchestra – Jyväskylä Sinfonia, since 2016. During her studies she was an apprentice at the Finnish National Opera and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as a frequent substitute in Tapiola Sinfonietta, Turku Philharmonic and Lahti Symphony Orchestra. She also played at “Philharmonisches Orchester Kiel”, Germany, in 2015-2016. Besides orchestra activity, Gil is an active chamber musician, soloist and an annual guest at the “International Summer of Arts” in Arnsberg, Germany, where she gives clarinet courses.

Gil won several prizes in competitions and is a recipient of scholarships from the “America Israel Cultural Foundation”, the “Musikstiftung Köln”, the Lions Club, and the Yehudi Menuhin organization “Live Music Now”. She has also participated in the West Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
