Ido Spak
Ido Spak was born in Israel in 1979. Ido Started playing the guitar and composing when he was 11 years old. It was only in 1997, at the age of 17, that Ido decided to quit the guitar and play the piano under the guidance of Dr Mark Shabiner. In 2002 Ido studied in Rimon school of Jazz and Contemporary Music. In 2005, Ido immigrated to Europe and went to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam to study orchestral conducting. In 2008, Ido had moved to the UK, where he has completed a degree in composition at the Christ Church University of Canterbury. During his time in the UK, Ido has played in many music events and toured with the CCCU bigband in Spain. He also wrote music for film festivals. After his studies, he had moved to London and then spent a year in Thanet. During that time, he had gone very frequently to Berlin where he recorded an album with the top musicians Berlin had to offer. On this album, Yatziv Caspi plays the drums, Nadav Mazel and Sean Petland play the double bass, Gal Liraz and Eldar Tsalikov on saxes, Christian Magnusson and Johannes Böhmer on trumpettes.
Ido Spak has been living in Berlin since August 2012, playing, composing and writing arrangements. He has received lessons from many great teachers such as Ilan Mochiach, Guri Agmon, Amit Golan, David Aviram Andre Dauw and Mathew Shipton. Ido has played with many various musicians from Holland, Nigeria, Cameroon and the UK. Since Ido has moved to Berlin, he has had concerts with the Israeli-Iranian Ensemble, Sista-Nagila. Ido has been a guest on the radio show, Kol-Berlin at Alex Offener Kanal.
Ido Spak’s music comprises a use of non-conventional rhythms which challenge the top musicians of the industry. He implements counterpoint techniques, symmetrical harmonies and graphic harmonies from the classical genre in Jazz. Ido has a very wide background in classical music, as well as in orchestrating popular music and arranging popular tunes to Jazz, Latin and Afro-Cuban styles.
