Guitarist & Composer iLan Bar-Lavi grew up between Mexico City and Jerusalem in a multicultural family.. His music and guitar playing are influenced by the music that he grew up around: rock, bolero, jazz, son jarocho, Cuban timba, Middle Eastern, Greek, Balkan, Jewish and Arabic music.
Bar-Lavi has toured and recorded with a variety of artists from all over the world: Los Sonex, Zap Mama, Nick Hakim, Margaret Glaspy, Ximena Sarinana, bassist Darryl Jones, saxophonists Bobby Keys & Tim Ries and vocalists Lisa Fischer & Bernard Fowler of the Rolling Stones, as well as international jazz and hip-hop artists such as Godwin Louis, Casey Benjamin, Gizmo, BIGYUKI, Antonio Sanchez, Jeff “Tain” Watts and many more.
Unfrofessional features 11 original, genre-bending compositions influenced by the sounds of Latin America, the Middle East and New York.
On this project, Bar-Lavi collaborated with singer Shelly Alma of Jerusalem, Mexican drummer Antonio Sanchez (from the Oscar winning movie Birdman) Greek bassist and singer Panagiotis Andreu, son jarocho legend Patricio Hidalgo, Mexican band Los Sonex and New York jazz Musicians Godwin Louis and Victor Gould.
