Liber May

Born in Havana, Cuba. Lives and works in Tel Aviv.
In Liber May’s eyes, art should formulate and rearrange the rules of the existing order. It should be a space with social and human dimensions, as an universal and popular means of stimulation, transfusion and bridging economic, geographic and cultural differences.
As someone who was born and raised in Havana of the mid-seventies, and currently living and working in Israel, Liber has experienced many ambitious national projects, all in constant tension between the individual and the collective; the private and the regime. On his artistic field, the players have multiple and fluid identities. By drawing, photography, sculpture, performance and installation, his works encompass found objects, draw images from the popular culture, the history of art and the world of sport. They investigate the condition of the subject and its relations with the social mechanisms, and the status of the art-object under the economic system.
