After having worked as an occupational therapist for many years, Marleene Rubenstein determined to become an artist. Despite her lack of formal training, she was accepted into the MFA program at CSULB where she majored in drawing and painting. She won the first prize in the Humanities Division for her research paper in art history, as well as winning the coveted Marilyn Werby Prize for her thesis show. She is a conceptual artist whose work has expanded to include installation, book arts, fiber art and 3D constructions as well as public art commissions. She has shown extensively in juried exhibitions across the United States as well as in Europe and Israel.
