“It has always been important for me to paint from a place that understands colors. Over the years, I explored colors and the different ways of how to work with them. In my work I deals with situations that connected to imagination and folk stories from the Ethiopian culture.
In My paintings I touch on issues of everyday life of the Ethiopian community in current Israeli reality.
My interest in painting stems from building the figures in color, and the tension between figurative to the abstract. As an immigrant, I cannot be indifferent to my visibility or invisibility, when my body color can indicate that I am an immigrant. The fact of being part of a minority population gives me inspiration in painting, My “self” is also the “self “ of a minority group, which is almost unseen in the social/artistic space”.
