About Shai Ottolenghi

Shai was born in 1998 in Haifa, Israel, and shortly later moved to Modi’in. He started professional classical ballet and modern dance training at the age of 12 in the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, then later joined the studio of Jerusalem Ballet under the direction of Nadia Timofeeva. Next came studies at the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts, where he resumed training ballet and modern techniques, along with repertoire by well known choreographers such as Nacho Duato and Mats Ek. Shai has participated in several summer programs- the Kirov Academy of Ballet, the American Academy of Ballet, the Juilliard school, iBstage in Barcelona and many courses in Israel. In September 2016 he moved to train in the Balletschule Theater Basel, Switzerland, and graduated successfully within two years.

Shai has taken part in the full show plans of the Jerusalem Academy during 2012-1013, Thelma Yellin High School during 2014-2016 and Ballettschule Theater Basel during 2016-2018. He has also been a guest dancer with the Jerusalem Ballet School in 2013 and 2016, and had the honor to participate in the ballet gala evening of Mia Arbatova foundation in 2016.

In May 2013, Shai was awarded several awards in the Young Russia Grand Prix competition in Saint Petersburg, together with the Jerusalem Ballet School. In Mai 2015 he reached the final round of the Mia Arbatova ballet competition in Tel Aviv, and in October the same year, he competed in the Youth America Grand Prix semi-final in Paris, where he was listed upon top 6 in Ballet category and top 12 in Modern dance category. Shai has been given partial or full scholarships for every single dance program he attended, in Israel and abroad, and during 2014- 2016 he has been supported by AICF scholarships in both the classical ballet and contemporary dance.
