About Tal Simon

Tal Simon was born in 1994 in Kibbutz Be’eri, Israel, and currently lives and works in Jerusalem.

Predominantly a painter, his works are based on personal memories and recollections. They emerge through visual depictions of intimate experiences that are fragmented and abstracted to a point where their origins collapse. Afloat in the interstice between real and imaginary, Simon’s paintings are based on reality and consistently depart from it. Gentle yet forceful and expressive, his large works on canvas are mindscapes amalgamating reality, imagination, conflict, and freedom.

Simon treats paint as means of conveying the passage of time, the complexity of memory and the possibilities of painting amidst the current flux of images and information in the media and the internet. His works are hence often a collision of landscapes and mindscapes set within chaotic, colorful, at times digital-like environments.

Simon received his BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem in 2021, with the Bezalel Academy Award for excellence. He is a recipient of the Excellence Grant from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, 2021.
