Tal Yahalom
Tal Yahalom is an Israeli born guitarist and composer based in Brooklyn, New York since 2014. In his music he seeks to weave a wide spectrum of aesthetic elements into a distinct musical language, exploring the worlds of hard bop, alternative rock, free improvisation, impressionistic classical music and contemporary songwriters of various fields.
He is committed to creating engaging storytelling, attentive interplay and distinct sonic environments, while expanding the traditional functions and textural capabilities of the guitar.
As a leader, Yahalom performs regularly with a solo guitar program, various trio configurations and a newly-formed chamber-jazz quintet.
Since 2014, he’s been co-leading the trio KADAWA, touring with the band several times across Europe, performing in major festivals and venues across the continent, in NYC and in Israel.
Tal is also an active part in many collaborations and stylistically-diverse side projects, led by musicians such as Nick Dunston, Gaya Feldheim Schorr, Lisa Hoppe, Sagi Kaufman, Adam O’Farrill and Gabriel Zucker.
Tal is the recipient of the 2014-2015 AICF scholarship award, semifinalist of the 2019 Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition, winner of the 2015 Detroit Jazz Festival National Guitar Competition and the 3rd place winner of the 2016 Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition.
