Yael Ben Shalom

Born in Jerusalem in 1977, Yael Ben Shalom is a visual artist based in Tel Aviv. She holds an MFA (with great honor) from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Tel Aviv (2014), a B.Ed. in Fine Art (with honor) from "Hamidrasha" Art School at Beit Berl College (2009), and an LL.B. in Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Ben Shalom’s work explores the tension between image and absence, between materiality and the imagined. Through drawing and painting, she investigates questions of memory, fragility, and perceptual thresholds, often incorporating visual ambiguity and indeterminacy as essential parts of her artistic language.

She has presented solo exhibitions at Alfred Gallery, Gallery 4, Haifa Museum of Art, and Gallery 09, with curators including Jenny Aharon, Orit Mor, Karni Barzilay, and Maya Kashevitch. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, such as the 2024 Jerusalem Spring Biennale, Fresh Paint Art Fair, P8 Gallery, Beit HaBe’er, and the CCA in Tel Aviv.

Alongside her studio practice, Ben Shalom has been actively involved in collaborative and independent projects. She co-curated exhibitions at the Haifa Museum of Art and Alfred Gallery, engaging in alternative curatorial models and artist-run initiatives.
