Yogev Shetrit

Yogev “Yogi” Shetrit was born in 1978. A professional drummer, performer, composer. In 2015, Shetrit established his band, with the goal of playing his own compositions.
In February 2016, Shetrit recorded his first studio album as a bandleader and composer. The album, titled “New Path”, was launched in September 2016 and since then the Yogev Shetrit trio has been performing across Israel and has toured all over the world.
In February 2017, the trio performed at the “Shaon Horef” Festival in Jerusalem. In March 2017, the trio played at the International Jazz Festival in Guatemala, including two concerts and four workshops. The trio was selected to represent Israel at the Kazakhstan Expo, July 2017. In September 2017, the Shetrit trio represented Israel on a tour in India which included four concerts and one workshop: A concert at the 7th International Delhi JF, a concert in Guwahati at the District Library Auditorium, a concert and workshop in the Aizawl 1st International JF and a concert in Shillong at the U Soso Tham Auditorium. In December 2017, the trio performed at the International Jerusalem JF. In January 2018, the Shetrit trio represented Israel on a tour in Miami, with two concerts, one at the “La Chat Noir” and the other at the “Black Box”, including a workshop at the F.I.U. Later on, they performed at the Panama JF, playing four concerts and two workshops. In addition, they performed Costa Rica in two concerts at “El Sotano” and three workshops: U.Nacional, U.CR, Centro Nacional De la Música. In February 2018, they performed at the International Red Sea JF, Eilat, Israel. In March 2018 the trio performed at the Bishkek JF in Kyrgyzstan and at the Almaty JF in Kazakhstan. In April 2018, the trio represented Israel at the Tashkent JF in Uzbekistan. In December they represented Israel in Moscow; IGIMO UN and at the Igor Butman Jazz Club. In January 2019 tour, they performed at two clubs in NY, later on, they represented Israel at the PAPJAZZ Festival in Haiti, in addition, they performed New Mexico in a concert at the Placitas & NM Jazz and a workshop at the JCC.
The “New Path” project contains instrumental pieces composed, arranged and produced by Shetrit, who plays drums and percussion. He elegantly fuses traditional North African music, Gnawa, Andalusian music from his Moroccan heritage, along with contemporary jazz, Jewish and Mediterranean music. His funk and Drum & Bass influences are also evident on some of the tracks.
Shetrit is a founding member of Coolooloosh, funk and hip-hop band which received international exposure by extensively tours all over the world. The band released three albums.
Shetrit also recorded and performed with many known artists including Chuchito Valdez, Tia Fuller, Paulo Morello, Kevin Mahogany and others. In addition, Shetrit plays as a freelance performer at various projects on a regular basis.
Education and Experience: Shetrit earned his BA in Musicology at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem (2000-4). He studied at the Drummers Collective in NYC (2005) and received a full scholarship for studies at the Rimon School of Jazz and contemporary music (2006-7). Shetrit has been a music and drums teacher for the past 20 years.
