    Event Info

Adas Israel Congregation is presenting Authenticity and Identity, an exhibition curated by Ori Z Soltes, a professor at Georgetown University’s Center for the Study of Jewish Civilization, who for four decades has engaged critically with Jewish artwork, politics and culture. The exhibition looks at how artists respond to challenges of Jewish identity, ritual, cultural touchstones, women’s rights issues, assimilation, cultural appropriation, cultural identity, and more. Admission is free; timed tickets required.

The exhibition brings together nearly 70 artworks by 40 artists from around the United States, Europe, and Israel. Approximately half of the artists live in the national capital region. The artworks, produced by acclaimed Israeli and Jewish American artists such as Kalman Gavriel Delmoor, Heddy Abramowitz, Leah Raab, and Edna Kurtz Emmet, explore challenges of Jewish identity faced by contemporary artists.

The exhibition is available both online and in-person. However, because of the pandemic, in-person attendance is restricted. It will be on display at Adas Israel Congregation in Cleveland Park through May 14th. Free reserved tickets are available allowing five people to view the exhibition at a time, with masking and social distancing required. Visitors can reserve their tickets on Adas’ website.

The online exhibition will remain live through the end of 2021. Attend the remaining virtual-only events related to the exhibition:
