Avi Taler in Traditional Pre-Season ‘Popular Classics’
Back at Hayling Island Community Centre at last!
Havant Symphony Orchestra are thrilled to be able to bring back a full live orchestra program. It will be an evening full of joy!
Overture “The Consecration of the House” – Beethoven
Violin Concerto in E minor – Mendelssohn
Soloist: Mira Marton
Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished” – Schubert
“Blue Danube” Waltz – Johann Strauss II
Beethoven completed his overture ‘The Consecration of the House’ in September 1822 – exactly 200 years ago – and its fanfares get the evening off to a suitably celebratory start.
A highlight of the concert will be the ever-popular Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn in which the solo violin part will be played by Mira Marton. Mira is a friend and fellow Royal College of Music student of the conductor, Avi Taler, the holder of their Bob and Beryl Harding Bursary for Student Conductors for 2019-20. Avi should have conducted in a full concert in September 2020 but as this was delayed by the pandemic, it's a delighted that Avi is able to come back and work with in 2022 instead!
The program managers couldn’t resist bringing forth the tuneful Symphony No. 8 by Franz Schubert. Of course, it’s famous mainly for the fact that he didn’t finish it, but it’s also glorious to listen to right from the moody opening of the first movement to the relaxed and peaceful end to the second.

Being so happy to be back at Hayling the concert will end with a known tune: the “Blue Danube” Waltz by Johann Strauss II. An unforgettable evening of great classics!
