Daphne Macy’s New Play at Heartland Theatre Festival

Daphne’s play, What Happens in the Waiting Room, explores gender and age-related biases within the workplace. It was selected to the Heartland Theatre’s 2023 10-Minute Festival

"What Happens in the Waiting Room..." is one of 8 plays selected out of 650 submissions for Heartland Theatre’s 2023 10-Minute Play Festival. This year’s festival will focus on the theme “The Waiting Room.”

Daphne’s play explores gender and age-related biases (and downright obnoxious behavior!) within the workplace: When Justin and Dorothy meet in the waiting room before a job interview, Justin learns a lesson about showing his true colors.

Daphne’s play will be directed by Lynda Rettick, and will star Patti Geske, Adam Alexander, and Terry Tinaglia.

Daphne Macy, who wrote the play, is an Israeli-American writer and actress. Her work was featured in the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Festival, American Stage, Primary Stages ESPA’s Detention Series, Heartland Theatre, CineWomen Magazine, Chicago Blow Up Art House Festival, the Lee Strasberg Alumni Film Festival, NewFilmmakers NYC, NYCLife, and CrossingsTV. She was also a finalist for Playwrights Realm’s Scratchpad Series, and a semifinalist for Playwrights Realm’s Writing Fellowship and for the Premiere Stages Play Festival. Daphne studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and at Primary Stages ESPA. She also holds a BA in Communications and Film from Tel Aviv University.
