Closing event of 'Artist Wall' Exhibition, GOLDEN RING, with curator Dveer Shaked. Last chance to see the video 'GOLDEN RING' [2017, 31 Min]. The film will be on display all day.
Don't miss this day's bonus at the Art Cube Artists' Studios: A talk with Debbie Luzia, Chen Tamir, and Ron in Bartush, who will discuss the exhibition 'Pyrotechnics'.
About GOLDEN RING:
Three years ago, artist Orit Ishay distributed an open call in Jerusalem. She invited residents of the city to select a song from a list of songs about Jerusalem from all times, come to her temporary studio at the Art Cube Gallery, Talpiot, and be filmed for her project "Capital Studio," subject of her artist-in-residence stay under the Art Cube's LowRes Jerusalem residency program.
After being filmed and taped in the studio, each person was asked to speak about his or her connection to the city through the song they selected. The songs and personal stories were combined to create the video "Golden Ring," a medley of Jerusalem songs. Abstracted texts from the personal stories appear on the screen as subtitles, instead of the original lyrics for each song. In their personal stories, Jerusalemites bring up thoughts and reflections on social, cultural, and political issues directly associated with the city.
In this video, as in Ishay's oeuvre of stills and videos made over the years, the artist continues her research examining the connection between individuals and location, and the impact on identity structure and national sentiment. Ishay does so through her continuing practice of integrating local communities into the artwork: She works On-Site, conveying a genuine connection she creates to locality and its human environment.
