Souvenirs
Yonatan Stirin, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, presents illustrations that examine Israeli mythology and symbolism. Using the formative power of metaphor, Stirin classifies familiar objects as Israeli memorabilia. These objects, some from Israel’s not-too-distant past, include cacti, snow globes, beach paddles and camels. Stirin recalls both Jewish Israeli and local Arab culture in representations that alternatively draw on pop art and oriental styles. Stirin mixes empathy, humor and personification with a perspective that is both cutting and sweet.
