After flying to Israel to spend the strange times of the pandemic with his family in Israel, the Brooklyn based jazz violinist Omer Ashano has received the announcement of being accepted to the semi-finals stage of the international Seifert Competition for jazz violin. The competition which normally takes place in Poland, will turn into an online format competition this year due to the circumstances.
The young violinist (27) who was already granted several awards and grants in jazz performance in the past, has gained international acclaim in the last several years as a unique and groundbreaking violinist. He moved to New York City in 2016 from Israel and after graduating with honors from The Newschool of Jazz, he remained active in the NYC music scene and was touring the US extensively with several different bands. Ashano gained worldwide recognition especially after the release of his debut E.P album “Alive In New York” as well as his starring on gypsy jazz guitarist Dennis Pol’s album “New York City” which was released by the prestigious Norwegian gypsy jazz label “Hot Club Records”.
The fourth edition of the Seifert Competition which will take place on the 8th-10th of July is the only international jazz performance contest for bowed instruments players to date in which 14 of the best cellists, violist, and violinists of the world are chosen to participate in the semi-finals stage, normally taking place in Luslawice, Poland. 6 Contestants pass to the finals in which the prize for the first place winner stands on 10,000 euros this year, in addition to invitations to give shows and masterclasses in Europe.
