Assif Binness

Assif Binness, born in Israel in 1997, began studying the cello at age 5. He attended Givatayim conservatory, under Prof. Shmuel Magen. Later he studied in “Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts” and currently studies with Prof. Hillel Zori at The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. Assif was a participant of the David Goldman music program for outstanding players. Assif played as the principal cellist of Thelma Yellin High School symphony orchestra (which he also played with as a soloist) and the YIPO. Nowadays he plays as the principal cellist of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. He also participates in practicum projects of the IPO. Currently Assif serves in the IDF as an outstanding musician.
In 2016 he attended the “Keshet Eilon summer master course”. The same year he was invited to play as a practicum player with the IPO in the IPO’s 80th Anniversary festival and Collaborated with renowned artists as maestro Mehta, Yefim Bronfman, Lahav Shani and Yuja Wang. He participated in master classes with Uri Vardi, Ralph Kirshbaum, Miriam Fried, Alexander Hulshoff, Gary Hoffman, Amit Peled and Haim Taub. In February 2017, Assif recorded the entire Kodaly solo sonata to the Israeli radio. In summer 2017, Assif participated in the “Ashkenazi/Kirshbaum chamber music seminar” of the “Heifetz institute”.
Prizes he has won include AICF scholarship, Hava Stern scholarship in 2011 and Ruth Lashman scholarship in 2015. 1st prize in the Buchman-Mehta school of music string competition and 3rd prize in the Buchman-Mehta school of music contemporary music competition
