The Berlin-based Israeli violist, Avri Levitan, is one of today’s most outstanding soloists with wide international recognition. 2012 royal philharmonic society award nominee. Avri’s CD has been nominated to the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2009.
Avri is the founder and music director of Musethica. A new concept of education in classical music performance. He performs regularly as a soloist in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo Oji Hall, Casals Hall Tokyo, National Philharmonic Hall Warsaw, Seoul art center, Beijing forbidden city concert hall, Milan Puccini hall, Stockholm Nybrokajen Hall and many others.
Some of his concerts and musical activities for the season 2010 to 2013 includes tours to Argentina (including Buenos Aires Radio), China (Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Beijing central conservatory), Korea (Kumho Art Hall Seoul and Art center), Israel (Radio concerts, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv Braunschweig Festspiele ,
Furthermore, he will appear as a soloist in collaboration with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, the Kyiv National Philharmonic, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra (Vienna Konzerthaus), the Chilean National Philharmonic, Lodz and Katowice Philharmonic, Auditorium Nacional Madrid with ORCAM, Orquesta de Murcia, at the Seoul Art Center with Suwon Philharmonic and many other chambers and symphony orchestras worldwide.
Alongside his performing career, Avri Levitan has also established himself as a gifted viola teacher. He is often invited to give master classes by the world’s most famous music academies, among them Vienna Music Conservatory (together with Maestro Penderecki), Gendai University Tokyo, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Beijing central conservatory, Krakow Music Academy, Tel Aviv Music, Royal Academy London, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius Music Academies and most of the Korean music universities.
Avri Levitan is a frequent guest at numerous festivals such as Ravinia Music Festival (Chicago, USA), Schleswig-Holstein, festspiele mecklenburg-vorpommern, Rolands Eck (Germany), Hida-Takayama Music Festival (Japan), Båstad and Gotland Chamber Music Festivals (Sweden), Seoul International Music Festival (Korea), Prades festival france, storioni festival Holland .
Born in 1973 in Tel Aviv, Avri Levitan studied viola under Professor Haim Taub. He graduated from the Rubin Tel Aviv Academy and achieved his Master’s degree at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris, in the prestigious “Cycle de Perfectionnement” program.
He won first prize at the Rubin Academy competition and first prize at the chamber music competition (viola and piano) at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris. During his studies, Avri Levitan was mentored by Pinchas Zukerman, Michael Tree (Guarneri Quartet) and Ivry Gitlis. Avri Levitan has regularly won scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
He has performed with some of the world’s most renowned musicians, among them Claude Frank, Pnina Salzman, Roland Pontinen, Staffan Scheja, Bengt Forsberg, Wolfram Rieger, Peter Jablonski, Pavel Glilov, Ralf Gothoni,Ilia Gringolts, Kuba Jakowicz, Takashi Shimizu, Guy Braunstein, Ulf Wallin, Arve Tellefsen, Gerald Poulet, Jan Stanienda, Bernard Greenhouse, Gary Hoffman, Alexander Rudin, Torleif Thedeen, Karl-Heinz Steffens,Emmanuel Pahud, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Nikolai Dyadura, Noam Sharif and Agnieszka Duczmal.
Avri Levitan has given solo concerts for numerous radio and television stations such as the ZDF and NDR in Germany, and national TV and radio in Israel, Sweden, Poland, Korea,Japan, Estonia.
