Maayan James

Maayan was born in Israel in 1992. He studied saxophone in Jerusalem Academy’s Conservatory in the class of Gersh Geller, The Israeli Conservatory with Gan Lev , Lyon’s Conservatory (France) with Jean Denis Michat, and the Brussels Royal Conservatory (Belgium) with Simon Diricq and Alain Crepin. Currently Maayan is based in Brussels, where he is an active independent musician and creator in the fields of Classical, contemporary classical and world music, and free improvisation.
Maayan performed on the Israeli radio in 2012. He played as a soloist with the Ra’anana and Haifa symphonic orchestras in 2014. He performed as a freelancer with many of the major symphonic orchestras in Israel. Maayan preforms regularly in Europe as a soloist and with chamber music groups. Maayan is the founder and a member of: the Klasik4Sax saxophone quartet, MASH duo (with the contrabassist Shaya Feldman), ElGiza ensemble (A mixed of Klezmer, Balkan and Arab music) and PASHAQ (a free improvisation group).
Maayan has been a recipient of the AICF excellence scholarship since 2007. He won the Israeli wind competition of the year 2014, and the second prize in the Paul Ben Haim competition in 2012 and 2014.
