Michal is an Israeli fashion designer and the winner of the “Fashion Humanitarian Award,” presented by Runway the Realway during New York Fashion Week, September 2017. Her collections have been shown in cities around the world (New York, Milan, Jerusalem, Taiwan, among others) and written about in Vogue Italia, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and others.
Ms. Hidas graduated from the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, one of the world’s most prestigious high fashion academies. During her studies, she ranked first among 40,000 contestants in the I-SKOOL digital fashion contest sponsored by ISKO, one of the largest denim producers in the world.
Michal made her professional breakthrough with the creation of BRIDGING. This unique collection was made in partnership with a Palestinian architect from Gaza (who, for his safety, cannot be named). Despite the many challenges the two collaborated online, with the Palestinian making a series of bold, optimistic architectural drawings for the project which Michal interpreted into patterns. These were printed on lavish textiles to create the fashion collection. Thanks to its unique aesthetic BRIDGING gained international recognition and, through its backstory, raised awareness of the conflict and highlighted the possibility of Israeli-Palestinian collaboration to an audience that is not usually exposed to it. The collection was sold in high-end boutique stores all over the world, mainly in New York, Chicago, and at pop-up events.
Hidas launched her second collection – BRIDGING 2018 – at a fashion show during New York Fashion Week. Created in collaboration with her Palestinian partner and a calligrapher from Jerusalem, this collection was inspired by her volunteer work with Syrian refugees in Leros, Greece, and an Israeli hospital, and gives voice to the plight of Syrians.
Michal, and her innovative work, was recognized in 2018 by her inclusion in the Forbes Israel 30 Under 30 list.
