Miriam Cabessa
Miriam Cabessa
Born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1966. She lives and works in Tel Aviv and New York. She moved to Israel with her family at the age of 3 and was raised in the north of Israel. She is an award-winning artist who represented Israel at the Venice Biennale in 1997.
In her immersive paintings Cabessa uses her own body as a paint brush, as well as domestic objects such as combs, irons, squeegees, glasses, rags and sponges. Referring to her process as slow motion action painting, Cabessa performs choreographed acts of painting, repetitively applying and subtracting sumptuous layers of paint into intimate compositions.
Cabessa moved to New York City in 2000 and she currently divides her time between NYC and Tel Aviv. She has exhibited extensively in galleries and museums in Europe, U.S.A and Israel.
