Tomer Ornan

Tomer Ornan was appointed Acting Assistant Principal and Eb Clarinet of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra IBA as from September 2018. Beforehand, he served as the Assistant Principal and Eb Clarinet of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra for two seasons (2016/2017-2017/2018). He was invited as guest principal clarinet with the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon Lezion (Israel Opera), the Israel Sinfonietta Be’er Sheva, The Raanana Symphonette, the Ashdod Symphony Orchestra, The Galilee Chamber Orchestra and the Kfar Saba “Israel Soloists” chamber Orchestra; and has been a regular guest and guest Eb clarinet with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Netanya Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra. He was also a guest player at the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, the Israeli Stage Orchestra and the International Youth Orchestra of Shanghai and has played at the Collegium Musicum Summer Academy symphony Orchestra. He performed under the button of Zubin Mehta, Vasily Petrenko, Osmo Vanska, Frederic Chaslin, Omer Meir Wellber and Yoav Talmi among many others. He appeared as a soloist with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra and the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Symphony Orchestra.
Tomer has acquired his bachelor degree in Clarinet Performance from the Buchmann – Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University – class of Mr. Yevgeny Yehudin, where he was a member of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Symphony Orchestra, a recipient of the orchestral training program scholarship, and a laureate of all four school’s competitions: contemporary, winds, chamber music and Israeli chamber music. He was 4 consecutive times prizewinner at the Israeli winds competition and a recipient of the America Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship since 2011 until today.
Tomer have had Lessons and master classes with the following artists: Francois Benda, Martin Frost, Sharon Kam, Romain Guyot, Franklin Cohen, Charles Neidich, Robert Spring, Reiner Wehle, Antony Pay, Nicholas Cox, Giovanni Punzi, Kyrill Rybakov, Corrado Giuffredi, Joy Farrall, Caroline Hartig, Guy Yehuda, Wolfgang Esch, Ron Selka, Eli Eban, Richard Lesser, Gilad Harel, Giora Feidman, Mordechai Rechtman, Maurizio Paz, Dudu Carmel, Mor Biron, Eyal Ein-Habar and Yossi Arnheim, among others. He participated in the ISA Masterclass, Austria, and gave concerts at the ISA festival, participated in the Italian Clarinet University Masterclass, and gave solo concerts at the Camerino Music Festival. He participated in the Pommersfelden “Collegium Musicum” Summer Academy, Germany, performed as a soloist at the Charles Bronfman Auditioium in Tel Aviv, Israel, recorded live for the Israeli classical music radio station “Kol Hamusika” and gave chamber music concerts at the “Israeli Music Holiday” Festival, the Tzavta Theater, the Clairmont Hall and the Ein Karem Music Center among others.
Tomer has started his clarinet studies at the age of 9, under Mario Solan at the Kiryat-Ono Conservatory, and later on, at the Zichron Yaakov Music Center with Shiri Kahana. He graduated with honours from the Music department of the Hof HaCarmel Comprehensive School. During the years 2010-2014, he was studying under Mrs. Mira Meerovich, and Mordechai Rechtman. In his youth, Tomer was a member of the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and also played in the Polyphony Youth Symphony Orchestra, MATAN Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Israeli National Youth Band. During his mandatory army service (2011-2014), he served as the principal clarinetist of the Israeli Defence Force’s Orchestra. Born in the USA to Israeli Parents and has Romanian ancestry, Tomer, 25, owns three citizenships: Israeli, US and Romanian.
