UNISON: The Pride of Israel on the World Dance Scene
This past November marked an exceptional Israeli achievement at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) competition in Paris, the largest and most prestigious ballet competition n the world On Sunday, November 12, 2017, Unison’s Academy Ensemble won first place in the Paris semi-finals; the group now qualifies for the finals which will take place this upcoming April in the USA. Other significant achievements include two students reaching the Level 12 Finals in the contemporary Dance category, and two students obtaining prestigious scholarships to the dance academies of Dresden, Germany and Cannes, France.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Unison has taken first place in the prestigious YAGP ballet competition in Paris, a tradition and standard generally reserved for the world’s leading dance academies.
Unison’s extraordinary achievements under the direction of Moran Barak lay in its ability to bring original and innovative Israeli choreography to its highest level on the international stage. Recent works created by leading Israeli choreographers include “MAX” by Ohad Naharin and “Oyster” by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak.
About the Unison Dance Academy
The Unison Dance Academy was established in 2011 and provides a comprehensive framework for dance instruction. The goal of the Academy is to train Israeli dance students at international standards and have them excel on that stage.
The Academy’s high standards, aspiration for excellence, team spirit, family atmosphere, and emphasis on the development of students as human beings and dancers alike, has resulted in a series of national and international awards in the very brief time since its establishment: The YAGP 2016 “Outstanding Teacher Award”; winning the Mia Arbatova Ballet Competition; student scholarships from the America Israel Foundation; and international scholarships for summer courses abroad at the Paris Opera Ballet and the Bolshoi Academy.
Unison students perform worldwide, showcasing dances by leading Israeli choreographers Ohad Naharin, Inbal Pinto, Avshalom Pollack, Itzik Galili and Rami Be’er. They also perform works by young choreographers, including Croatian artists Ivica Bago and Ronald Savkovich.
