Yael Schmidt
Yael Schmidt’s practice explores an individual state of mind within a broader environment. Her photographic and video recordings focus on self-representation, and the performative as the point at which public and private realms intersect.
Yael’s work considers the role of the artist as an initiator, creator and facilitator of self-representation. She is interested in how we choose to present ourselves to the world and what is ultimately revealed. This has been formative in her exploration of the photographic portrait while her practice extends this idea further by the assemblage of an archive, also questioning the position of the artist as documenter/documented in this process.
